A reader has emailed me about another new book. “Mujer nueva” by Gloria Conde has been translated into English by Karna Swanson, Circle Press (ISBN 0 9651601 7 3). This reader says that the book offers a “positive, propositive integral vision of the new women with strategies for the promotion of women’s dignity.” Sounds great to me!  Now to find a copy...

I’m very excited about a great new book by Australian author Karen Doyle.  Here’s the media release.

Book Launch -  The Genius of Womanhood

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, Australian Christian author, Karen Doyle has released a new book entitled, The Genius of Womanhood.

Drawing on John Paul II’s work on ‘the feminine genius’ the publication represents an attractive and moving synopsis of both John Paul’s thought and Doyle’s own desire to see women empowered and encouraged to embrace their identity.

Based on four key concepts, Receptivity, Generosity, Sensitivity and Maternity, the book encourages women to accept, explore and develop these capacities in service of others and the world.

Doyle states, “For so long, some of the things that are particular to the feminine, such as the capacity to be emotionally available and attuned to others have been seen as weak or problematic. You can hear it every time someone talks about women being too emotional. What I found in my post-graduate study of John Paul’s philosophical anthropology was that he saw that these capacities were powerfully linked to the receptive and nurturing nature of the whole female person. Rather than being a problem, he saw them as an answer to so many of the problems that face the world.”

Doyle’s hope is that the book will help many women engage with the reality of the feminine genius and that each woman’s relationships and indeed the Church, local community and the world will benefit from it.

Later this year she will release another, larger book exploring the core concepts in greater detail.

The book retails for $16.95 and can be ordered at www.thehumanperson.com

Hi everyone, sorry I haven’t updated for so long!  Publishing a book plus having a baby... yikes!

The Edith Stein Project, at the University of Notre Dame (US), had around 350 people attending their conference “Toward integral healing for women and culture”, on the new feminism, in February this year.  I think they did really well and I so wish I had been able to attend!  They will have transcripts and DVDs available soon - and they had a great lineup of speakers, so this is a terrific opportunity for those who didn’t make it. Check out page 3 of this newsletter for a brief report on the conference.

And here’s an important message from Terry Polakovic of ENDOW (here I’m quoting):

The ENDOW 2007 Catholic Women's Forum "Designed for a Life of Love" is on Sept. 7-8, just three weeks away! We encourage you to register now if you have not already. For complete details or to register, click here or visit our website at www.endowonline.com.

We have selected amazing speakers this year who you will not want to miss!  Below are some of the presentations lined up:
Father Scott Traynor, J.C.L. - "Where Does My Heart Rest?"
Teresa Tomeo-"Making a Difference in the Media, Catholic Women Engaging the Culture"
Susan Selner-Wright, Ph.D. - "Our Conception of Christ Makes Us What We Are"
Father Jorge Rodriguez, S.T.D. - "Women Who Lived to Love"
Theophany performing a dinner theater of "The Jeweler's Shop" (A special performance of John Paul II's play regarding love and marriage.)
Sister Prudence Allen, R.S.M., Ph.D. - "The Virtue of Friendship"
Sister Marie Paul Lockerd, R.S.M, D.O. - "Virtue and Women's Health"
Terry Polakovic, ENDOW Executive Director - "What's New with ENDOW"

The cost is only $159. (Current ENDOW members - $129).
Scholarships are available for ENDOW participants.  As we persevere through life, it is important to re-fuel our soul with opportunities like this.  By far, this is a great investment in your own formation and will strengthen you in your personal mission! Register now!

Join us for this fabulous opportunity to celebrate our inner beauty and dignity. Here's to faithful women! May we know them; may we be them; and may we raise them!”

(end quote.  Again I won’t be able to attend - wrong continent - but I wish them all the best and hope for some transcripts for this site!)

February 6th 2007

Very exciting - Second Spring (UK) will publish their next issue this year with a special focus on the new feminism!  Even if you’re not a subscriber you can purchase this issue.  I’ll keep you posted.

And equally exciting, the Edith Stein Project, at the University of Notre Dame (US), is hosting the second conference on the new feminism: “Toward integral healing for women and culture”.  Dates are February 23rd and 24th, 2007.  Visit the website for more information, www.edithsteinproject.org.  They have an amazing lineup of speakers. I wish I could attend but I’m in the wrong country!  They have told me that transcripts will be available after the conference.

January 12th 2007

I join with many others to mourn the passing of Elizabeth Fox Genovese on January 2nd.  Read about her here.

I also want to recommend Katrina Zeno’s book - Every Woman’s Journey: Answering “Who Am I” for the Feminine Heart.

Check out the latest additions to this site!

Including how to get hold of Pia de Solenni’s thesis, where to study the new feminism in the US, and the life-changing experience of reading Edith Stein’s Woman....

Thanks to those who have emailed me with kind words and information - I love it!

Welcome!

Interested in the new feminism?  Then I hope you’ll find something useful here, and perhaps in some small way join me on my journey towards a new way of understanding what it means to be a woman.

This is not an official new feminism website and it is not linked to any organization.

I have put this together simply because I am passionate about it and would like to assist other like-minded explorers.  Because I’m a beginner, I can’t guarantee the quality of the resources on this site.  When it comes to philosophy, what I lack in talent I make up for in enthusiasm.  So please email me with any comments or ideas for content or links.  Sincere thanks to many of you who already have.

If you have found your own name or work on this site,  please consider emailing me to let me know about your current projects, or any other information you think might be useful.  Some of you new feminist writers and students have already contacted me which absolutely makes my day.

Happy rehumanizing!
